How to Approach SEO if You Have no Idea What You’re Doing

If we were to rearrange Maslow’s hierarchy of human needs, according to the world today, the internet would undoubtedly be situated at the very base of the pyramid. The internet has become a vital part of our existence. I don’t know about you, but the first thing I do in the morning is check my social media profiles and e-mail, and only after order has been restored to my virtual little universe can I go about my business.

As luck would have it, I met somebody last year who offered me a job, as a blogger, but only after a few months of writing did I realize that there is so much more to the internet than I could have ever imagined.

Having emerged from my dense shell of blissful ignorance I was introduced to the magical world of SEO.

My First Encounter With SEO

At first it was confusing and frustrating because everything seemed awfully complicated. Nevertheless, I spent hours and hours reading about the inner workings of one the most interesting tools of the World Wide Web, and that was when I realized. SEO can be many things, for many people, at the same time. It is creative and technical, rational and time-serving, enthralling and coherent, but most of all it is complex. SEO is so complex that sometimes it is hard to tell if a related article is informative or misleading.

However, you don’t need to have a degree in computer science in order to comprehend the basics of SEO or search engine optimization.

Approach To SEO

Approach To SEO

Obviously, I am a noob, so I’m not going to talk to you about the fundamentals of search engine optimization. This is a mission for the enlightened.  The purpose of this article is to emphasize the importance of SEO, and to suggest a possible approach you could take.

Understanding What SEO Does

Most of you probably already know this, but for those still in the dark, what great SEO practices basically do, is help a good page rank higher on search engines.  The first, and most important thing that I understood about SEO is that it is something that should be integrated in your marketing plan, not your sole objective.

In other words, you should not write for search engines, but for readers. It may sound cliche, but this is probably the vital characteristic of SEO.

You must have noticed that the world as we know it is rapidly changing. Just look at the changes that happened in the last 10 years. People are no longer working from offices, they no longer have to drive downtown to pay their bills or buy clothes, because they can do it from the comfort of their own home. But for the average user, even a few milliseconds of delay might result in dissatisfaction.

It is with the help of ethical back-linking, content creation and the relentless efforts of bloggers worldwide that different sites, companies and businesses have managed to gain online credibility. I could go on and on about the amazing capabilities of SEO but I’d rather not venture in uncharted waters.

Refine Your Learning Strategy

SEO is one of the most fast-growing businesses of the present, and it is here to say. If you really want to be part of something unique and work differently, you will have to commit yourself to the process. SEO is nothing you can learn overnight, and it is also something that you never finish learning about.

With so many search engine algorithm changes, things can become confusing in the blink of an eye. If you are taking the do-it-yourself route, like I did, you will have to gather as much information as you can, read it, and compare it.

Luckily for you, there are tons of amazing sites and books on the subject. Determination and perseverance are the keys to success. SEO may not be the shortest road to personal and professional fulfillment, but it is one of the most gratifying and lucrative ones. Just look at me, I am at the beginning of my journey and it already feels very rewarding. But before you start you should ask yourself what it is that you want to achieve in terms of SEO, and strive to live up to your expectations.

Even though I am only at the beginning of my journey, I am positive that my fascination with SEO will only become more intense.
